Beloved of the Lord, we all enjoy to receive anything freely. And when it is not required to be returned, our happiness knows no boundaries. Also God shoulders our expectations. Men offer with expectations, conditions and limitations. But... God gives us without any expectations, no hard or unbearable conditions, unlimited and graciously. Hallelujah! Jesus gave Himself to His disciples His body and His Blood as bread and wine symbolically! (Matt 26:26,27)
Not only that... If you look onto the first part of this verse, it says that "The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him:..." Pro 10:24. The Scripture points to a wicked man, very opposite of a righteous man. He too lives with his expectation. But his expectation gives him fear in return. His fear instead of giving him peace destroys it. His expectation with fear meets him in his unexpected time. He is then shaken to his core. The righteous are not so to fear as he fears the Lord God. And in turn God Himself rewards him with pleasure. We can see 3 points in this verse.
First of all we see someone is called as righteous. We are pursued to ask 'who is this righteous?' when the Scripture says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. How or why a man who is a born sinner is called as righteous by God? The faith of Abraham made him righteous (Gen 15:6). Godliness of Noah made him righteous (2 Pet 2:5). Hatred towards sin made Lot a righteous (2 Pet 2:7,8). We read about Daniel and Job as righteous in Eze 16:16. Likewise the old testament calls many others as righteous. How could we living in the era of New Testament become righteous? Romans 5:9 and 4:25 says that the one who is washed off his sin by the blood of Jesus has become righteous. Romans 5:1, 10:9,10 and Gala 3:24 says that those who believe and confess that Jesus died for his sin is righteous. So, if someone wishes to have his desires granted, he must become righteous by cleansing himself by the blood of Jesus.
Nextly, the desire of the righteous should be right and pleasing in the sight of God. This may hurt and trouble your feelings. Because we can see many of our desires have not been granted. Our faith starts to wobble when we don't receive some of our desires even after much wait over the years. But we fail to check ourselves against the situation. We can study two reasons for our desires not being granted although we can mention more.
Firstly, we fail to choose the desire which pleases God. A righteous man should have a swift move to fulfill the desire of God rather than his own. God does not provide our desires which we seek after our own lusts, only to give us something better (James 4:3). Although we have encouraging promises in Matthew 7:8, Mark 11:24 and many others to claim, it is honourable to submit ourselves to Him like Christ (Matt 26:39,42,44). We should try and prove that what is acceptable unto God (Eph 5:10).
Secondly, at times God's delay is not denial. God who holds our times in His hands (Psa 31:15), has done everthing beautifully in His time (Ecc 3:11) for the sake of our best goodness. Answer to the prayer of Daniel was delayed (Dan 10:11-13), but was not denied! "...though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." Hab 2:3
Lastly, God grants our desires when our desires fall in line with the will of God. It is then our happiness abounds. "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life." Pro 13:12. Our Father God wishes to give us His children not a name sake happiness, but an abounding happiness. Jesus says in John 16:24 "...ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." When God has given unto us His own Son, how shall He not freely give us all the other things? (Rom 8:32)
God will surely grant us our desires. We should be righteous, washed by the blood of Jesus. We should ask according to His will and wait to receive (Rom 8:25). When we receive our desires, we receive along with abounding happiness.
God of heaven will bless you by granting your desires!
"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12
I am resolved to follow the Saviour
Faithful and true each day,
Heed what He sayeth,
Do what He willeth
He is the living way.
